More Yellowstone Fun!

Here's the one wolf who decided he didn't need to sleep while we were at the Wolf and Grizzly Center:

My uncooperative picture-posing child:

My super cooperative picture-posing child:

Catherine and the big bear:

Again, note the levels of cooperation:

Okay, so maybe Catherine wasn't being cooperative, maybe she was just totally freaked out by the thing:

So much so that she needed a nap with Daddy when we stopped for lunch:

After this you can imagine the standard mix of Yellowstone pictures of hot springs, buffalo (Boose in Matthew's words), elk etc. We had a nice drive, took some nice walks and I more importantly learned I can handle a day trip with the kids . . . of course when I have 3 extra adults on hand! Wyoming here we come!

Yay for Amma and Papa!

While my new computer is on the way, Papa loaned me his computer and access to all of his pictures. Here's some of my favorites:

Amma meeting Catherine for the first time:

Catherine meeting Papa for the first time:

Matthew's been busy showing his grandparents around Bozeman. First the park:

Then a break to wrestle with Amma:

Showing off the frogs (complete with his "Wowwwwwwww" face):

Hanging out around the house:

Yet another trip to the park:

Showing off his shorts and being just as goofy as you'd expect an almost 2 year old to be:

Catherine's first bath:

A trip to Yellowstone. Someone kept grandma and grandpa entertained the entire way.

Bears:

Checking out the wolf den with Papa:

Checking out the wolf statue with grandma. You'll notice a theme in these pics that someone doesn't particularly like to be picked up for pictures

Thanks Uncle Matt for teaching little man how to swing when he's holding 2 people's hands. He now insists on holding 2 people's hands as often as possible. He especially loves holding grandma and grandpas.

Sam the bear:

Illie in what James and I decided looks like a bear hot tub:

There's more to come but Picasa only lets me upload so many. All in all we're having a great time and my shiny new computer should be here soon!

Professional pic sneak peek

Theoretically, my new laptop will arrive on Monday so I can get back to my picture downloading/blogging goodness. In the meantime, for those not on the book face, here's a few photographs a friend of mine took yesterday: http://www.simplereflectionsphoto.net/babies/c-newborn-bozeman-newborn-photographer/ Catherine was incredibly cooperative, but insisted on being awake and unbendable for most of the photoshoot, which was actually not that cooperative. Matthew was more interested in the ants, ducks, eggs, rocks and planes in and around the lake than taking photos but that's the joy of an almost 2 year old right before nap time I suppose :-)

Slowing to a crawl

Much like 10 days after Matthew was born, my laptop decided it just couldn't handle the competition for attention and has died in the most dramatic of fashions. My month long plus streak of posting every other day will also be dying with it and it'll be a while before I get back into the blogging/uploading groove. I can assure you Catherine and Matthew are still adorable and between myself, Amma and Papa we'll have plenty of pics to share eventually. If you need a cuteness fix in the meantime, I highly recommend these baby elephants in a baby pool:

Yay Dads!

ScribeFire ate my Father's Day post yesterday, but it boiled down to my having an amazing husband and great father, who just so happens to be visiting.  The day included lots of Matthew playing with Amma and Papa (thanks to uncle Matt for encouraging some new wrestling techniques and to Papa for teaching someone that a headbump is a gesture of endearment).  Happy Father's Day to all the great dads out there and to the two men who served as role models for James and Dad and set the examples of great Fathers.

And now to show Amma and Papa the sights of Bozeman!

Not a bad day

Happy 1 week birthday Catherine! It's been an exciting week. She's already quite the social butterfly and went to big brother's playgroup and had her first play date this week. Granted, she sleeps through most of these things but still, it's a start.

James worked from home today so instead of being stuck in traffic this morning he got extra baby snuggles

and big brother crawling-climbing-kicking-elbowing over in the cutest way to say hi to Catherine.

Matthew also thought it was a good time to give momma's (thankfully decaf) coffee a try:

Amidst the craziness of yesterday, we tested out our gorgeous new sling I got at our baby shower.  Catherine approved by immediately falling asleep:

Matthew's learning a lot about baby care and is in a very intense mimicking phase.  He's a little frustrated as he still can't figure out how to get the nursing pads to stay in his shirt like momma but he certainly likes to try.  (I promise grandmas he has other shirts but now that I do laundry eighty billion more times a day the clean shirt at the top of the pile always seems to be this one!)

And last but not least, some pics of Catherine waking up (in B&W because my camera/flash/lighting turned her an alien color that made it less cute!)

Happy Friday everyone!  We're just anxiously awaiting the arrival of amma and papa tomorrow!

Big Brother

Yesterday, baby Catherine received this gorgeous bouquet of flowers from my office. While she was zonkered out, I decided to play around and take pics. Thank goodness a friend of mine will be doing real newborn/family pics soon as I just don't have the artistic eye that captures all her wrinkly, squishy goodness. Even though the sheepskin is covering most of it (I figured Catherine would be more cooperative this way) the trunk she is on was her great grandma Jennie's trunk that I hope to pass on to her one day.

Matthew took a turn at holding Catherine today. At first he was uncertain, then he hammed it up.

Then he tried to make the baby smile by sticking his tongue out and being silly. It didn't work but he sure had fun.

Now I've created a baby-holding monster as he climbs up next to me while I'm nursing and pats his lap asking for the baby.

And some more alert baby face:

And though I can't update you on all the awesome things Matthew did while we were at the hospital as I think grandpa took mostly video and I forgot to ask for copies, here's some of my favorite pictures grandpa took while he was here:

And here's the red-necked grebe (aka "guck") we walk down to the lake to check on pretty much every day. No changes to report from our walk today.

I wasn't the only one who did a lot of walking while we waited for Catherine's arrival.

Five on Friday
