More Fall Fun

We took the kids to the Pumpkin patch again.  Unlike last year (when we waited until the day before Halloween and there were no pumpkins!) there were plenty of pumpkins, kids and activity!  Catherine is fascinated by her toes and when she's not plotting how to get a hold of them or get them into her mouth, she's doing this:

And though Matthew had a great time, he couldn't take much time out of his busy schedule for pictures:

He did, however, pick out 2 very nice pumpkins for us.  In case you were wondering, they were definitely heavy much like, well, everything the boy picks up.

We even caught a cattle drive on our way out!

And here's Matthew's pumpkin he painted:

Which of course also needed "sprinkles"

The final product:

And just because, some more cuteness with Catherine rocking Matthew's hand-me-downs. Go Pokes!

And because we can't get enough owls in this house:

And some more sibling picture attempts in their new Halloween outfits from Amma and Papa:

And Matthew's attempt at sitting on Catherine's lap:

And last but not least (if you're not hip to the facebook) we are under contract on a house!  It's definitely got some quirks that we'll probably share later on but for right now I'm dreaming of cooking Christmas dinner in this kitchen:

If all goes well we'll close in early December!  I'm not quite certain how I'll adjust to a kitchen where I can't reach everything from one place, but I think I'll manage.

Fall Fun!

he just asks for more and more and more owls!  One of Matthew's first words was owl and one of his first animal sounds was "hoo hoo".   When we talked about going to the Raptor Fest this weekend he was very excited to go see some owls and insisted on taking his "pack pack."  I think we can squeeze at least another half season out of the frog hat so it came along too:

(As James noted we've at least gotten our money's worth on comments we get about the Frog hat.  It remains a crowd favorite - though this year Matthew's a little more leery of all the attention.)

It was a gorgeous day up at the Ski area and the season's snow is definitely creeping down the mountain.  Matthew wanted to hike to it but I think we'll wait until we're up there when it's not nap time and/or the snow gets a little closer.  We're at such a great stage where Matthew wants to hike on his own but his pace and stamina still leave a bit to be desired.

The owl and rough-shinned hawk were the same ones we've seen here and here and my photos this time were even worse than before.  This is not surprising considering I was trying to bounce around with Catherine while James was working with Matthew to develop a third volume level that's not super extra loud or extra loud as he shouted "Owls! Owls!  Heavy!  Heavy!"  This boy loves his owls.  Daddy still has to draw the (heavy) owls, but Matthew has started adding "hats".  What a weird cute kid!

We then went on a short nature hike to learn more about the area's raptors and to run some energy out.

Here's hoping we get a break in this dreary weather next weekend as well.  The colors should be perfect and it was great to get out instead of just house hunting so I'm looking forward to doing it again!  We have an offer in on a house and should hear soon (it's hard to use time-based leverage in a buyer's market when the house you want is unlike anything that's been on the market in the past 9 months!)  If this one doesn't work out we're taking a much needed fall/holiday break from the search and/or waiting this seller out.

Yes, it really is

that red . . . Catherine's hair that is!  This is one of the questions I get most on the phone with our families.

Before Bath:

Just chillin' in a mostly modest pose:

When he's in the bath by himself Matthew love his bath crayons, but when Catherine's there he loves to help:

He's really good at helping keep her toes clean.  This is good because she certainly likes to grab them and put them in her mouth!

After Bath:

We had planned to go to the museum Saturday morning since it was raining but Catherine decided to take a super long nap and since I messed up her naps all week I figured we'd go ahead and both enjoy it.  Matthew unfortunately is now old enough to understand our planning and kept asking for Big Mike all day.  An afternoon trip turned out perfect and we wandered a bit around the grounds:

Meanwhile Catherine conked out:

And since it's cooler out it was time to bust out some of Matthew's old and warmer clothes for Catherine.  Here are the kids both rocking the woodland animal fleece sleeper, though Matthew was one month younger when he fit into it:

Busy.  That pretty much describes our past 2 weeks.   James and I put our first offer in on a house, only to be outbid.  As much as we're theoretically just casually looking at houses, we've missed out on 2 other great houses at great prices while we dilly-dallied so we've stepped up the home search a bit.  We went last Friday without the kids and somehow it took us even longer to see 5 houses than with the kids.  Crazy.

Catherine's working on rolling over, pulling up on her activity mat and wiggling all over.  She also has had two teeth pop through, but they're pretty far back.  Hopefully they'll either finishing coming in real fast so she can rock a true vampire look for Halloween, or they'll take their time so her front teeth can catch up.  She's also developed this high pitched squeal/squawk that's mostly happy but is own beast when we're out an about.

Matthew's language is developing fast and furious which is exciting to watch though it's often so exciting for him he struggles to get the words out.   He also LOVES his music class which is a lot of fun on Monday nights and I enjoy watching how he follows Ms Rachel's directions.    However, he's also going through a rough (literally) phase where he's just all over the cats, Catherine and me which combined with his constant testing of boundaries is both frustrating and exhausting on a daily basis.
Here's pictures of Catherine just being cute:

The kids modeled their new PJs from Uncle Matt's Alaska Adventure.  Catherine is never as thrilled as Matthew is for picture time:

And things especially devolve when Matthew asks for Catherine to sit in his lap:

In other exciting news we picked up a play kitchen the other day.  Unfortunately we have yet to pick up some pots and pans so Matthew has taken to cooking his farm animals - still in his very OCD, straight line style.  At least the goofball always knocks before opening the doors.

And here's some excess geekery from reading too much Star Wars ABCs.   At first I thought he was just identifying the fonts on the back of the book but it's pretty much all W's and U's, written and spoken are Wookies and Ugnaughts.  I'm not sure if this is better or worse than when he was just calling them bears and pigs.

Five on Friday
